"The Poor People of Paris" is a song based on the French language song "La goualante du pauvre Jean". The song was adapted in 1954 by American songwriter Jack Lawrence. In 1956 Winifred Atwell recorded a piano version that peaked at number one on the UK Singles Chart on April 13, 1956, a position it held for three weeks.
