"American Pie" is a song by American singer and songwriter Don McLean. Recorded and released in 1971. American singer Madonna released a cover version of the song in February 28, 2000 to promote the soundtrack of her film The Next Best Thing (2000). Her version reached No. 29 on the Billboard Hot 100 on March 4, 2000.
