"Goodnight, Irene" or "Irene, Goodnight," is an American folk standard, written by Huddie 'Lead Belly' Ledbetter in 1933. In 1950, one year after Lead Belly's death, the American folk band, The Weavers, recorded a version that reached number one the Billboard Singles chart on August 19, 1950, a position they held for 13 weeks.
