"(Sittin' On) The Dock of the Bay" is a song co-written by soul singer Otis Redding and guitarist Steve Cropper. The song was released in January 8, 1968, before Redding's death in a plane crash on December 10, 1967. (Sittin' On) The Dock of the Bay become the first ever posthumous single to top the charts in the US. In March 16, 1968 it topped the Billboard Hot 100 for 4 weeks.
