The song was first released on November 21, 2013. The song also served as the lead single from Williams' second studio album, Girl (2014). The song has been highly successful, peaking at No. 1 in the United States, United Kingdom and 22 other countries. In the UK the song peaked the number 1 of the Chart on January 4 2014 and remaned for 4 non consecutive weeks. "Happy" reached the top of the US Billboard Hot 100 on March 8, 2014, and remained it for 10 weeks, giving Williams his fourth No. 1 single on the chart, but his first as lead artist.
