"Those Were the Days" is a song credited to Gene Raskin, who put a new English lyric to the Russian romance song "By the long road" composed by Boris Fomin with words by the poet Konstantin Podrevsky. It was the Mary Hopkin's debut single, released on August 30, 1968. "Those Were the Days" was produced by Paul McCartney and arranged by Richard Hewson. The song became a number one hit on the UK Singles Chart in September 25, 1968, remining on the top for 6 weeks. In the US reached number two on the Billboard Hot 100. The song was featured on her debut album Post Card.
